A. David Baumhart III
Dave Baumhart has been a practicing attorney since 1970. He is a graduate of Vanderbilt University School of Law and Olivet College. His practice background included litigation in employment/labor law, negligence matters, commercial/business transactions, products liability and domestic relations. He has represented several school districts in Oakland County and served as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Oakland County. Dave served as in-house counsel for Burroughs Corporation (now UNYSIS) where he managed sales and product litigation. Dave has served as a case evaluator in Oakland County from 1981-1998 and served as a facilitator/mediator during Oakland County’s Settlement Week programs before joining the Michigan Court of Appeals (see below).
Dave has been an active member of the State Bar of Michigan since 1970 and the Oakland County Bar Association. He has served in the Representative Assembly, chaired the State Bar of Michigan Committee on District Courts and was a member of the Labor & Employment Law and the Negligence Sections. He also served on the Oakland County Bar Association Circuit Court Mediation Committee and the Legislative Liason Committee.
Currently, Dave is a member of the State Bar ADR Section, serving on both the Counsel and Executive Committee; in addition he is a member of the State Bar Labor and Employment Section and the Negligence Section and a member of the ADR Section of the Oakland County Bar Association.
In February 1998, Dave joined the Michigan Court of Appeals Settlement Office leaving private practice with Clark Hill where he had practiced for six years. He has completed two intense, 40 hour mediation certification training programs, one at Nova Southestern University (FL) in the fall of 1998 and the ICLE 40 hour General Civil Mediation Training in 2003.
In 2002, Dave became the Director of the Michigan Court of Appeals Settlement Program, where he remained until September 2009 when the Settlement Program was closed due to severe budget reductions. During Dave’s more than 11 years with the Court he provided alternative dispute resolution/facilitative mediation services as a neutral to litigants and counsel in a wide range of civil matters on appeal.
Dave Baumhart has now launched ADR Advantages, PLC to continue his work in providing counsel in Michigan with Alternative Dispute Resolution services before, during, and after trial court litigation has ended.
